I'll admit, pizza delivery is easy, quick and tasty. It's something our whole family enjoys. Having several choices restaurants that deliver nearby had really made a the treat of pizza night a nasty little habit at our house! We probably ordered delivery once a week until several months ago. Our average order for 5 people easily crept up to $25 (that includes tip). How did this happen? Well, when you work all day, have kids, or are just busy and don't necessarily feel like cooking it seems like a good idea - at the time.

Pizza Delivery: Curbing Temptation
~~~~~
Well, once you get into the frugal mindset, things like this get you thinking! After all, those $25 pizza dinners are on top of the grocery budget and they really add up! I started thinking...what if I bought two grocery store pizzas and kept them in the freezer for use when I thought a pizza night was in order? Would that work? I found out the answer to that is a resounding "YES!" I'm finding it is pretty easy to pop two pizzas in the oven and make a couple of salads and fresh fruit for the kids.
~~~~~
I know, I know - I could be making my own pizzas. That would save me a lot more. One step at a time here. I'm not going to have a baking day anytime soon either - sorry. And yes, planning your menus does reduce the temptation to eat out.
~~~~~
Here's what I'm saving by purchasing a "higher quality" pizza at the grocery store instead of ordering out. (We'll still order out occasionally!)
~~~~
Total for Pizza Takeout=$25.00
Total for 2 grocery store Pizzas=$8.00
That's a savings of $68.00 per month
and
$816.00 per year!
And now, I'm off to bake my pizzas!
