Was your Sunday newspaper lacking something this past week? Like maybe an entire RedPlum coupon insert? Mine was.
Valassis has pulled their RedPlum coupon inserts from major cities in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Utah, Virginia, Washington, D.C., North Carolina, Maryland, and Texas.
Are you affected? Whether or not you live in one of those states, you most certainly are affected! Is this the beginning of the end of the printed coupon? I certainly hope not. Valassis's plan to mail out coupons or provide them online will be detrimental to couponers. Only one or two copies will be available. If you are not in one of those states you should be concerned. Will this movement to end the printed coupon spread?
There are other factors at play here, too. Consider what will happen the Sunday paper industry. I buy 4-5 papers per week just for the coupons. What if all the couponers quit buying papers? I think the newspaper companies would be in a world of hurt financially.
What can you do? #1: Call your newspaper and express your concern. Let them know you just may not be purchasing the paper anymore if the coupons aren't there. #2 Contact Valassis, the maker of the RedPlum coupon inserts, and let them know how upset you are about this!
