Postage Stamp Increase

I heard yesterday on CNN that the cost of a postage stamp will increase from $ .42 to $ .44 on May 11, 2009.

The good news is this: you can buy "forever" stamps at the 42 cent rate from now until May 10 and they are good forever! I'm planning to buy a few to get me through the rest of the year.

I don't buy many stamps though. I do most of my bill paying through my bank online and keep in touch with friends through email. Occasionally there is a bill or letter that just has to be mailed. Most of my stamp purchases are for Christmas and thank you cards. I've tried to be conscious over the years and eliminate much of my letter mailing, especially for bills. I have found all of my online banking to be safe and effective. If you are still paying your bills by checks in the mail you might want to reconsider!
