Aldi: Top Produce Picks for the Week

Here are the best deals of the week at Aldi!  Cost of produce does vary slightly from store to store, however the same items are usually on sale.

Aldi is my favorite place to buy produce for price, freshness and selection.  It is best to shop on the first day of the sale if your store sells out quickly.

If Aldi is out of your way, or you don't like shopping there, you can price match at Walmart!  Walmart's national ad campaign is to price match any competitor without question.  You can print the first page of the online ad for produce, however you don't need it.  I tested this out last week and it worked just fine for me.

One of my favorite Aldi deals is back:  2 Gallon Tomato or Pepper Pot $7.99.  Last year they clearanced these to about half the price a week or so after the sale.  I picked up a pepper plant, that grew to a pepper bush and produced HUNDREDS of peppers!  I kept it in a pot on my deck in the full sun.  I will be looking for it again!

Aldi Top Picks in Produce: 5/4 - 5/11

Here are the best deals in produce at Aldi this week.  Keep in mind produce prices may vary slightly by region.  Most produce at Aldi beats the prices at Walmart and grocery chains by half, saving you quite a bit when you add up the savings at the end of the year.  I highly recommend finding out when your Aldi store receives their produce for the freshest and best variety.

The more I shop at Aldi the more I find I like.  Last week I picked up black beans at $.55 per can, compared to $.98 at Walmart.  Pan spray (like Pam) is only $1.29 and I don't see any difference.  Olive Oil is much cheaper at Aldi.  Deli style pizzas, rice cakes, and pretzels are far cheaper than name brands at Aldi and taste just as good.

If you are new to shopping at Aldi, keep in mind you will have to take your own bags and a quarter for the cart.  You'll get your quarter back when you return the cart.  You will bag your own groceries.  Aldi only accepts cash or debit cards. 

It took me a very long time to get used to Aldi and find what I like there.  I definitely don't shop there for everything.  I go every week for produce.  I like to shop on Wednesdays when my store gets the produce.

My Aldi has the freshest produce!  I shop on delivery day, which ensures great selection!  I stand firm that their prices are absolutely the lowest!

This week we tried Aldi Honey Cornbread, Aldi Deli Pizzas and Aldi String Cheese.  The Honey cornbread was so delicious, however it was a 'special buy' so I am not sure if I will be seeing it again.  The deli pizzas and string cheese were as good or better than any other brands.

I personally LOVE Aldi specifially for their great produce buys.  I shop there every week just for produce, but occasionally try other items.  Last week I picked up a bag of Aldi frozen broccoli for $.99 because I was in a hurry and did not want to make another stop.  My husband detests a bag full of broccoli stems, and I was sure I'd be in trouble with this, but it was going into a recipe, so I bought it anyway.  What do you know, that bag was ALL florets and NO stems!

Aldi: Bagged Baby Carrots $.49 This Week

Many of you know I buy almost all of my produce at Aldi exclusively.  If you are lucky enough to have a good Aldi store in your area, you just cannot beat the prices!    Last year I compared the prices of produce at Aldi to the prices at Walmart and the results were astonishing.  Talk about huge savings!

This week Aldi has bagged baby carrots for $.49 per bag!  I am thinking these could be frozen right in the bags and used in soups, stews, and casseroles!  Has anyone ever tried this?

Discount Pumpkins: Large Pumpkins $1.99 at Aldi this Week

This year we were lucky enough to snag about seven wonderful pumpkins from a relative's farm for FREE. 

Pumpkins aren't cheap.  My kids always pick the biggest ones and they can be up to $5 each.  This is a big price for something you are going to throw out in just a few weeks. There are a few ways to get them cheap if you can't get them FREE.

Aldi:  If you live near an Aldi store, pumpkins are just $1.99 this week

Walmart:  Wait until the week of Halloween.  Many stores including Walmart, mark the pumpkins down to get rid of them!

Farmers:  Buy directly from the farmer.  They usually sell them for just a few dollars.

Aldi Deal of the Week: $.99 Cantalope

As you probably know by now, I buy all of my fresh produce at Aldi.  While it takes just a little extra time, I save a bundle!

Aldi: Rock Bottom Produce Prices & More

I have been shopping at Aldi now for quite a few months religiously for produce.  Their prices cannot be beat!  You can read this post and actually compare the produce prices at Aldi with those of Walmart!  You will see that in many cases Aldi has produce for less than HALF!

I try to buy the healthiest foods for my family, and that means buying lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.  Deals for those items are few and far between, so buying at Aldi is one way I save quite a bit.

Honestly, I did not fall in love with Aldi immediately!  I was actually turned off by the store and my first two shopping trips were a year apart!  Aldi shopping can be made easier by knowing what to expect!

What you should know about shopping at Aldi:

• You will need a quarter to unhook the cart.  Deposit it into the handle and unhook the chain.  When you hook your cart back up, you will get your quarter back.
• You will need to bring your own bags, or buy them for $.6-$.10 each at the register.  You can also use boxes from the aisles.
• Aldi only accepts cash or debit.
• Aldi guarantees their products.  If you don't like them they give you double the money back!
• Aldi cashiers are super fast.  Be ready with your payment form!
• You will bag your own groceries after paying.
• Aldi does not accept coupons

I buy my produce exclusively at Aldi because I can't come close to their prices at other stores.  Once a week I stop in and load my cart with produce.  This week I'm in sticker shock--in a good way!

Aldi: Saving on Produce

A little under a year ago, I began buying produce at Aldi.  I had tried shopping at Aldi before but never loved the whole Aldi experience.  After a friend told me that she shopped there every week for the produce, I decided to give it another try.  I used to be a believer in getting most of my staples at Walmart and even somehow believed that Walmart pretty much had the best prices---NOT THE CASE.  Check out the price differences from my shopping trip on 3/6/10!  Keep in mind, Aldi produce prices vary by region.

As you can see Walmart beat none of Aldi's prices!  I can't speak for everyone's store, but my Aldi has very, very nice FRESH vegetables!  Ask what day your store gets their produce and shop when the selection and quality is at it's best!
